More than four years ago, I was in a Scripture Union Easter Camp at Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria. It was an activity filled camp, and I was nominated by the then Area Youth Leader to lead the Youth section.
However on the Saturday before Easter Sunday (April 4, 2015) I woke up to do my quiet time with my Daily Power devotional, and in their usual manner, we were reading about the events leading to the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus. That very day, the topic of the devotional was JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA.
It was not the first time I had read that account or heard of Joseph, the Arimathean, but that day’s reading changed my life to some degree. A light came to me that day on the life of Joseph that opened my eyes to the matter of purpose, and fulfilling one’s destiny. The prayers I prayed then are still my prayers today; and through the ups and downs of life, I believe the Lord used that teaching to keep me in track in my seasons of greatest struggles and failures that were to come later on in my life.
I have treasured these teachings in my heart, and though have shared them in little doses with men since then, I believe it would be pertinent we discuss those issues now.
Though not much was said in the Gospels about this man, his story took up a total of 18 verses spread almost evenly over the four Gospel account (Matthew 27 vs. 57-60; Mark 15 vs. 42-46; Luke 23 vs. 50-53; John 19 vs. 38-42). Beyond these accounts, not much is said later concerning him. However, those little accounts create for us some great perspectives that will lead us to pursue and fulfill the reason for our existence on Earth.
So, I send forth this series in the hope that it will stir your heart like it stirred mine, and much more; that the purpose of your existence on Earth will be your greatest passion and pursuit.
That in all things, the Lord will be glorified. Amen.
