“As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus.” Matthew 27 vs. 57 (NIV)
“From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.” Acts 17:26 (NIV)
Now, the word has gone forth, from the foundations of the earth. A rich man is going to bury Jesus. It is how the Almighty Mind has decreed it. However, it is easy to say that you want something to happen, and another thing to really make that thing happen.
It is difficult to talk about purpose in life without talking about the sovereign moves of God. Why is this so?
By the law of Design, even in Engineering, there are appropriate conditions that has to be met before a particular design will properly serve its purpose. Once one of the conditions is aborted, the design will alter or be aborted. Hence, as I look at the life of Joesph the Arimathean, it is important to take note of the fact that three conditions had to be right in his life if he must serve the purpose of God.
Firstly, RACE. If the Arimathean was to ever meet Jesus, he has to be born a Jew. If he was born a Greek, or in far away Ethiopia or Ephesus, he may never have had the opportunity to meet the Lord, not to talk of becoming His disciple and burying Him.
Secondly, TIME. Apart from being born a Jew, he had to be born around the very time when Jesus of Nazareth was going to live in the flesh. If he was born about 300 years earlier, or 200 years later, he would never had fulfilled this very purpose.
Thirdly, GRACE. By prophecy, the man who would bury Jesus had to be a rich man. So, I imagine that either the Arimathean was born into a rich family, or somehow grace so attended to him that whatever he did, he prospered.
Now, looking at these 3 things (RACE, TIME & GRACE), it would be clear to us that all these things were essentially circumstantial. Joseph could not have chosen his race, or his time, before he was born. Even the grace that made him rich was not just about him, because there may have been others who laboured more than him in life, yet were not rich. Yet, in the life of the Arimathean every slight conditions fell into perfect place. Why? Because the sovereign God moved on his behalf, before even his life began.
So it is with you too. Nothing about you is accidental. Your season of birth, your nationality and race, your family background, your personality are just right for what God wants to do with you.
The reason why many people experience stress in life most times is because they are trying to live the life of another man. They are struggling to fit in and perfect in a track that is not their own.
You are fit for nothing else but your purpose in life. Everything about your upbringing, your propensities, your personality, etc, are just what you need to fulfill God’s purpose for your life. God has no ‘disadvantaged’ creatures, because all He does is perfect. There is nothing wrong with you, especially as concerns things you had no choice over (such as family background, nationality, colour, place of birth, etc). Those things can never be a disdvantage to you, otherwise the Almighty would be termed unjust. You are just placed in the right place to fulfill your destiny.
So, stop mourning your present condition. Stop mourning your family condition. Stop mourning the state of your nation. Arise and take your place. For, by the sovereign moves of God, all you need to fulfill destiny has been properly apportioned to you.
