The Roman governor of the island, named Publius, had his estate nearby. He graciously welcomed us as his houseguests and showed us hospitality for the three days that we stayed with him. His father lay sick in bed, suffering from fits of high fever and dysentery. So Paul went into his room, and after praying, placed his hands on him. He was instantly healed. When the people of the island heard about this miracle, they brought all the sick to Paul, and they were also healed. The islanders honored us greatly, and when we were preparing to set sail again, they gave us all the supplies we needed for our journey. (Acts 28:7-10 TPT)
It was a grueling Sunday. Dad was used to having some paracetamol in his pocket because of my sister’s fever (when she was yet small). Once her body becomes feverish, if that fever is not handled and her body temperature rises to a certain level; the next thing is convulsion. It had happened a few times to my sister, so there was need to forestall further happenings. But that Sunday, Dad forgot paracetamol on the way to Church. In fact, the one in the house had finished and he failed to purchase another one. Service was going on when Mum walked up to him and called his attention to the fact that my sister’s fever was rising again. Dad went into panic mode!
He got up and left the church premises with his motorbike and went looking for an open chemist shop where he could purchase paracetamol. Unfortunately, those where the days when chemists and pharmacists went to church on Sundays (you get what I mean, right?). So, he even went as far as getting to the local government headquarters desperately looking for where to get paracetamol. Now, I cannot remember again whether he succeeded or not, but by the time he came back to the Church, something had happened!
My mother and my sister in her arms sat at the center of the Church; the whole Church surrounded them and made prayers (you know how to make garri, right?). Whatever kind of ingredient they mixed in that prayer, I do not know; but by the time they were through, convulsion disappeared. It was the last time convulsion ever happened to my sister till she grew up and got married.
You see, beloved brother/sister, Jesus is the same yesterday, and today and forever. He still heals men. He still answers prayers.
This was how it happened on the island of Malta. When the people saw Paul bitten by the serpent and yet nothing happened to him, they concluded that he was a strange creature (did not the Bible say that if any man be in Christ, that he is no longer a human being but a creature? A new creature?). There was then this Roman Governor on that island who had a sick father. Paul was called in, and when he prayed for the man, the man was instantly healed! Men! Word went out through that small island that something was happening in the island. Actually, Jesus of Nazareth (in the person of Paul) had visited them. It was exactly what Jesus would have done that Paul also did. Wherever the Lord went, he not only preached salvation to the souls of men, he also brought healing to their bodies.
I tell you, beloved, Jesus still heals today. On the cross of Calvary, he conquered sicknesses. By the same crucifixion with which he broke the power of sin over our lives, he also broke the power of sicknesses. Hence, just like it is not His will that His children should walk in sin; so also, it is not His will that His people should walk in sickness.
They brought all those who were sick to Paul, and the Apostle laid his hands on them and brought them healing from heaven.
So, this is my word to you… Jesus still heals today. It did not end with the Apostles. It did not end with the coming of the Bible. A time is coming when healing will cease. Do you know why it will cease? Because, there will be no more sicknesses. Otherwise, as long as sicknesses still do exist; the Lord who can cure them also exists. He can do all things, and there are no impossibilities with Him. He does not only heal small sicknesses, he can also heal big ones like cancer. In fact, he can even raise the dead! He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
AND SO? Do you trust the Lord for healing in any area of life or the other? Note that healing can be both physical and also mental. If so, I encourage you to believe in the Lord, and meditate on His wonderful word. Healing is your portion. It is yours, right now, in the Name of Jesus. Please feel free to send us an email concerning whatever area of life you trust the Lord for healing, and we will join you in prayers concerning that issue. The Lord is still alive, and He will answer you and help you. Amen.
