The Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb; And two people will be separated from your body; And one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve the younger.” Genesis 25:23 NASB
Throughout the ages, world without end, the natural way men have been brought into the world, has been through the loins of a woman.
The only man to have escaped this reality has been Adam alone; but through the days, every other man or woman who entered this scene called “the earth” (even our Lord Jesus), came through the womb of a woman. The woman’s womb remains the unchanging crucible for the birthing of destinies.
Therefore, it has been a fundamental right of every woman, to know what is happening in their womb, and to know what exactly they are carrying therein.
In our world today, we have what we call CT Scan, where a woman can be able to find out whether she’s carrying a male child, or female child, or whether it’s just fibroid; and almost every woman I know who was pregnant endeavoured to pass through a scan, just to know what was happening in their womb.
However, long before the advent of technology, during the oriental times, women still had a way of finding out what was happening in their womb- through the word of God. It has always been the right of every woman to know what manner of child is in her womb; and even if the husband does not know, God knows and will always try to make the woman know too.
The advantage of the ancient way of knowing what was in your womb was this: they were not just told the sex of the baby, and whether it’s a single baby or twins (as today’s scans will do); they were also told the destinies of those children, and how they should be raised.
Here was pregnant Rebekah with a serious struggle going on inside her womb. There was no scan to run to, but there was a God to run to.
The Bible reports, “The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the Lord .” Genesis 25:22 NIV
Oh thank God she did not go to scan, rather she went to the Lord. For the scan would have merely told her that she is going to have twin boys, but the Lord told her much more.
“Two Nations are in your womb…”
Oh, how many women make the mistake of thinking that what is in their womb is merely a baby. While the twins were still unborn, the Almighty God was already seeing Nations. What was in the womb of Rebekah was not two baby boys, but two Nations, and two manners of people.
I don’t know how else to communicate the passion in my heart; but I wish that our sisters will understand the privilege God gave them. Their wombs are crucibles for the birthing of Nations, and cities and tribes. Every pregnancy (whether wanted or not wanted) is a nation about to be birthed. May God open our eyes to see this.
“And one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve the younger.”
The Divine scan did not stop there. It told the woman the destiny of those children.
I will say it again: it is the right of every pregnant woman to know what she’s carrying in her womb.
The Bible is full of women to whom God communicated what was happening in their womb to.
From Hagar (Abraham’s Egyptian slave girl) to Mama Rebekah, to Moses’ mother, to Samson’s mother, to Mary the mother of Jesus; women have been able to access from God what His will is for the child in their womb.
How did Elizabeth know that the name of her baby will be John? She could not have consulted her dumb husband. The Spirit must have told her.
AND SO? To every woman I must say…. Your womb is not a careless place; it’s a crucible for the birthing of Nations. Hence, when you see something growing there, it is your right to come before God to know what exactly is in that womb. It’s not something that is available for only deeply spiritual women- even Hagar was able to obtain God’s destiny for her unborn child- Ishmael. So, when Satan wants to tell you that you are not worthy to receive such information from God, tell him that even Hagar obtained it from God, how much more you-a blood-washed and redeemed child of God.
No more will we give birth to children for trouble. No more will we give birth to children without having an idea of what manner of children they will be.
Let our mothers pray. Let our nursing mothers pray. Even if your children have grown up, still pray. God have always found it easier communicating these instructions to mothers than to their husbands. I’m telling you.
Just come to the Lord and ask Him about that child in your womb, and as sure as the dawn will rise, He will guide you to raise that child for His glory.
